Phases of Competition

1. MISS/TEEN - Private Interview (30% of total score)

Each contestant participates in an individual 10 minute press conference style interview with the panel of judges. There are typically 5 to 7 judges on a panel. The private interview provides an opportunity to learn as much as possible about the Competitor’s qualities and attributes to fulfill the Titleholder position; her insight on how to advance her Community Service Initiative for a full Year of Service; allows her to express her beliefs and have a true knowledge of the world around her; and to get a sense of accomplishments above and beyond her Resume.

2. MISS/TEEN - Performance Talent/HERStory (20% of total score)

Contestants will have 90-seconds to captivate the audience/judges with a talent performance or personal narrative.  HER Story contestants may use video projection, voiceovers, music backtracks, props, or any other creative means to enhance their storytelling experience; singers will use a microphone, pianists a piano, musicians a musical instrument and so on.  This portion of the competition shows the contestants overall presentation skills and ability to deliver a captivating presentation, their stage presence, on-stage personality, and personal connection to her story.

**Be advised that the time limit is strictly enforced.

3. MISS/TEEN - On-stage Conversation (10% of total score)

Serving as a conversational perspective on the competitors ability to have an extemporaneous conversation, the contestant will have 20 seconds to answer a question or conversation regarding their Community Service Initiative.   Each contestant will be able to showcase their intelligence, personality, charisma, communication skills, and aptitude for the Titleholder’s opportunity.

4. MISS/TEEN - Evening Gown (20% of total score)

This phase is designed for the judge to assess the Competitor’s personal style, beauty, poise, grace, and commanding stage presence.  The Competitor’s total look is considered.  Her evening wear (not the value of the evening wear) should compliment the Competitor’s individuality.

3. MISS/TEEN - Health & Fitness (20% of total score)

This phase of competition is designed to see how well the contestant maintains a lifestyle of good physical health and whether or not she has the sense of confidence and self-assurance needed to serve as a titleholder. The contestant should demonstrate she takes care of herself and participates in activities which promote a healthy lifestyle. The contestants will wear Rebel Athletic aerobic/active-wear clothing, chosen by the contestant herself. The Miss Whitman Scholarship Organization does not judge on a contestants appearance and is not looking for a “perfect” fitness body. This phase of competition is a great indicator of confidence.
